Buckingham Township is taking proactive steps to address contaminants in its drinking water supply through the construction of a new PFAS treatment system at the Township’s Well F-8 Facility. ARRO Consulting partnered with the Township to help them secure $2.435 million in PENNVEST grant funding to support this vital public health and environmental protection initiative.
Project Overview
Groundwater testing identified the presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the Township’s water supply, requiring treatment upgrades to meet evolving state and federal regulations. The project includes the design and construction of a new treatment facility while maintaining uninterrupted service to residents.
Key improvements include:
- Installation of granular activated carbon (GAC) filtration units for PFAS removal
- Construction of a dedicated building to house upgraded system components
- Addition of a backwash holding tank
- Integration with the existing system, which will continue operating at its permitted capacity of 200 gallons per minute
The improvements will bring the facility into compliance with Pennsylvania’s updated PFAS maximum contaminant level (MCL) requirements and meet the current federal standard of 4 parts per trillion (ppt).
Funding & Partnership
ARRO supported Buckingham Township through the preparation and submission of a successful PENNVEST grant application, securing $2,435,000 in funding to cover project costs. This financial assistance enables the Township to move forward with necessary infrastructure upgrades while minimizing the burden on ratepayers.
Community Impact
This project strengthens the reliability and safety of Buckingham Township’s water system, ensuring residents continue to receive high-quality drinking water. By proactively addressing PFAS and planning for long-term regulatory compliance, the Township is investing in the health, sustainability, and future growth of its community.
