We’re excited to announce that our client, Buckingham Township (Bucks County, PA), has been awarded a $2 million grant from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST), along with a low-interest loan of $615,000, to support a vital public health and environmental protection initiative.
The funding will enable the construction of a new PFAS treatment system at the Township's Hearthstone Facility. This critical investment will allow Buckingham Township to treat groundwater impacted by per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), ensuring residents have continued access to safe, clean drinking water.
The project involves developing a new treatment facility featuring a dedicated building to house the upgraded system components. Planned improvements include the installation of an air stripper, transfer pumps, granular activated carbon (GAC) filtration units, and a backwash holding tank. The existing treatment system will stay in service, and the overall system will continue to operate at its permitted capacity of 400 gallons per minute.
This infrastructure upgrade will not only bring the system into full compliance with Pennsylvania’s updated PFAS maximum contaminant level (MCL) regulations, but it will also meet the federal standard of 4 ppt for PFAS, ensuring continued protection as regulations evolve, safeguard public health, and support long-term sustainability for the Township’s growing community.
